PALM BEACH GARDENS – A $15,000 donation from the Palm Beach Gardens Police & Fire Rescue Foundation on Giving Tuesday will help a local nonprofit continue its mentoring programs for at-risk youth.

Suits for Seniors, a Riviera Beach-based organization that works closely with high  school seniors throughout the county, mentors and trains students by providing them education on economic mobility, life skills, and entrepreneurship.

Currently, there are two Suits for Seniors programs for boys at William T. Dwyer and Palm Beach Gardens High Schools, and one program for girls at Palm Beach Gardens High.

The program brings in members of the community to talk to students about their life experiences and careers, as well as financial experts to discuss banking and investing, said Irwin Edenzon, Palm Beach Gardens Police & Fire Rescue Foundation President.

"They basically build a well-rounded foundation to get them started off in life as they go off to college, or they go off to a career," Edenzon said.

Suits for Seniors Founder and CEO Jervonte Edmonds accepted a check from the Palm Beach Gardens Police & Fire Rescue Foundation during a ceremony Tuesday at Veterans Plaza Amphitheater that also included Palm Beach Gardens Mayor Carl Woods, Police Chief Clint Shannon and Fire Chief Keith Bryer.

During the past five years, the foundation has awarded a total of $50,000 to Suits for Seniors, allowing funding for 225 students to participate in the program.

The foundation was established in 2007, and works to secure public funding to enhance the safety of the Palm Beach Gardens community and the effectiveness of the city's Police and Fire Rescue Departments.

"We rely on the support of the community," Edenzon said. "It's the generosity and the civic concern that the folks in our community express every time they support us financially, and that allows us to do our work."
